Member Since: 2006 Media Specialties: Clay; Fiber; City: State Road State: North Carolina County: Surry County, NC Bio: But can you use it? This is usually what I ask myself when I admire pottery. I enjoy, on a daily basis, using pottery in my kitchen and home. We cook with it, drink from it and sometimes drop it. Almost five years ago I took a pottery course at the local community college. I got hooked on the wheel. After acquiring my own wheel and throwing piles of dried unfired pottery I got my electric kiln in 2007. With the help of my wife and son we have our pottery/bag booth at 3-5 local festivals a year, at the guild gallery in downtown Elkin and also do special orders when we are able. All my pots are food - dishwasher - and oven safe. They are glaze fired to cone 6 (2167 degrees F). Nothing beats functional, handmade pottery for use in your home or work. My family is making an effort at decreasing our impact on our environment. About a year ago we decided we were not going to use plastic bags when shopping. I made a few reusable cloth bags for us...made a few for some friends and family...and now we make and sell them regularly. Our shopping bags will hold about five plastic bags worth of groceries. AND all our cloth bags are made from material that comes 100% from either corn or recycled plastic drink bottles (usually mountain dew)...these are truly an environmentally friendly purchase. For any questions about my pots or bags; email, call or come by the house... Phone: 336-366-4399 Homepage: www.throwandsew.com This Member's Galleries: This bio page has been viewed 1392 times.
