Member Since: 2008 Media Specialties: Mixed Media; City: High Point State: North Carolina County: Davidson County, NC Bio: I have been working in clay since 1990, but chose it as a full-time craft in 2006. Although I began by throwing functional pots on the wheel, I now create unique hand-built sculptures for the garden and home out of earthenware clay using slab, pinch, and coil techniques. Other materials such as copper and rock are sometime incorporated into these sculptures. I also work with construction foam and a fiberglass-enforced cement to create deck and patio plaques and large, lightweight sculptures for the garden. Other interests include fishing, traveling, reading and glass beadmaking. I am an exhibiting member of City Gallery, Inc., Galax, VA, and have work in The Other Half Gallery and The Mill Stone Galleries, Winston-Salem; am an executive committee member of Whimsical Women; a handbuilding instructor at the Sawtooth School for Visual Art; and owner of Mossy Rock Creations Awards: First Place, Clay Classic, Yadkin Valley Craft Guild, Elkin, NC; Best of Show, Grand Prairie Festival of Arts, Stuttgart, AR My work is greatly influenced by things such as the bark and roots of trees, the texture and color of rocks, emerging flowers and vegetation, moss, the sand patterns in a creek bottom or on an ocean beach after the tide has gone out, the colors in a sunset and nature's endless combinations of these elements. By taking natures leftovers, and adding my own style and design, I combine various techniques and materials to create unique artwork for the home and garden. I credit my love of nature to my Great Aunt Grace who took me as a child on long walks through the woods, gathering prized pieces of bark, wood ears, rocks, seed pods, and moss to create fantastical works of art upon our return to the house.
